EA SPORTS is bringing NBA JAM to a 2010 audience with everything that fans remember about the original (revolutionary visuals, over-the top gameplay and numerous unlocks and cheat codes) PLUS online capability. The winner of 8 “Best Sports Game of E3″ award, including the Game Critics Award, NBA JAM is a high-octane video game that is fun for everyone!

‘NBA Jam is a disappointing retail package, mainly because it would’ve been one of the greatest Xbox Live or PlayStation Network releases of all-time. As it stands, this $50 disc adds a few modes to the Jam that you know and love, but at the end of the day the reason that you’ll invest is the classic gameplay, not the Remix Modes. You have to ask yourself: is the classic gameplay and eventual addition of online multiplayer worth the rather hefty asking price? I’d say yes, if you’re a diehard Jam fan and no if it never impressed you back in the day.’ We give it 3 stars out of 5.

Use your creativity and imagination to unlock a world of play! Create, the video game, tracks your creativity and rewards you for it. The more you create, the more you unlock rewards and exciting challenges to play, opening a world of fun as you go. Let your imagination run wild, as you create cool environments with easy-to-use tools, including animating objects, textures, and designs that bring your scene to life!

‘Create tries to stretch the family game in new directions, but the individual portions of the game feel like lesser versions of a lot of other titles on the market. Super Scribblenauts offers a less frustrating and more creative approach to problem solving; if you’re into making your own world, The Sims offers you much more freedom by allowing you to build it how you’d like. And both of those games give you personality and characters that you can feel some attachment to and care about. Create feels like a hodge-podge of small ideas that don’t add up to a satisfying whole.’ We give this one 2 stars out of 5.

For all you dancing machines and pop stars in the making, get ready to show off your best moves with SingStar Dance. Fun, new PlayStation?Move motion controller gameplay lets you dance as well as sing along to your favorite chart hits.

‘If you’re just buying this for the tracks, you’re fine. I like the set list and the SingStar online features are cool. Trouble is, this game isn’t just tracks — SingStar Dance is a tacked-on PlayStation Move option that does nothing to further the fledging control scheme. Sure, you’ll have fun and laugh as your friends make fools of themselves, but that’s just because they’re waving their arms like crazy and acting foolish; it’s not because the system works.’ We give it 2.5 stars out of 5.

The newest installment in the biggest action series of all time and the follow-up to last year’s blockbuster Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops.

‘Call of Duty: Black Ops is a great overall package that has a ton of content to enjoy. The multiplayer modes are largely based on what was established by Modern Warfare, but the twists that Treyarch throws in work well. My biggest issue with the multiplayer is that the new Wager Matches, while fun in their own right, don’t compare favorably to the high-quality and addictive leveling system and game modes from Modern Warfare 1 and 2. Single-player is as exhaustingly fast-paced as ever with large set pieces that try to take the attention off of the lackluster AI of both friends and enemies. Thankfully, the story is the best I’ve ever seen from a Call of Duty game. Couple both of those substantial offerings with more Zombie content than some full-fledged zombie games and Black Ops is certainly worth your time, even if you aren’t already a fan of the series.’ We give this one 4.5 stars out of 5.

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit players will experience the thrill of the chase and the rush of the escape as they play through full careers as both a cop and a racer – solo or connected. The blistering speeds, brutal busts and heart-stopping getaways are all connected via Need for Speed Autolog. This network not only connects friends for epic head-to head pursuits and races, but also enables players to compare performances and stats, thereby setting the stage for the ultimate in friendly competition.

“Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit is pure over-the-top driving entertainment. The cars and environments are gorgeous, the crashes are spectacular, and the new Autolog feature breathes new life into the time-honored tradition of video game competition among friends. The single-player races can become somewhat repetitive and there are some presentation issues, but overall, Hot Pursuit is a blast. If you’re looking for a high-octane racer that grabs on tight but doesn’t take itself too seriously, give this one a shot.” We give this one 4.5 stars out of 5.

The force is not strong in this one

The Star Wars Saga continues with Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, the highly anticipated sequel to the fastest-selling Star Wars game ever created, which has sold more than seven million copies worldwide. In Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, the world was introduced to Darth Vader’s now fugitive apprentice, Starkiller-the unlikely hero who would ignite the flames of rebellion in a galaxy so desperately in need of a champion. In the sequel, Starkiller returns with over-the-top Force powers and embarks on a journey to discover his own identity and to reunite with his one true love, Juno Eclipse. In Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, Starkiller is once again the pawn of Darth Vader-but instead of training his protégée as a ruthless assassin, the dark lord is attempting to clone his former apprentice in an attempt to create the Ultimate Sith warrior. The chase is on – Starkiller is in pursuit of Juno and Darth Vader is hunting for Starkiller. With all-new devastating Force powers and the ability to dual-wield lightsabers, Starkiller cuts a swath through deadly new enemies across exciting worlds from the Star Wars films – all in his desperate search for answers to his past.

‘Reviewing The Force Unleashed 2 breaks my heart. As a rabid Star Wars fan who’s gone so far as to tattoo symbols of the franchise on my body, I wanted to jump into another epic story that better fleshes out Starkiller’s story. It’s disappointing that The Force Unleashed 2 not only fails to tell an interesting yarn, but also somehow manages to make the cool combat mechanics feel relatively pedestrian by failing to have enough variation in combat, or enough outside of combat to break up the pacing. Hardcore Star Wars fans should still check this out, but, as Master Yoda might say, “a good game The Force Unleashed 2 is not.”’  We give this one 3 stars out of 5 stars.

Rockstar has done it again.  Perfect timing for the Halloween season too.  This great downloadable content is certainly worth getting.  It comes with 6 + hours of single player mode, some new weapons, new clothes, new cheesy horror flick cut scenes, a fun multi-player mode, and much more.  So you want to trick or treat yourself, then get some Microsoft points and download this now.

‘Undead Nightmare is what downloadable content should be — a lot of bang for your buck. There’s a whole lot of new here: a 6+ hour single-player campaign, two multiplayer modes, two outfits, side missions, weapons, mounts, etc. It’s clear that Rockstar didn’t skimp on this package, and priced at a cool $10 or 800 Microsoft points, neither should you. There’s a lot of fun to be had in this light-hearted version of the West, so if you’re craving a well-polished zombie-filled package of fun, here it is.’

Having sold more than 50 million units worldwide, the renowned WWE simulation experience and annual centerpiece in THQ’s expanding WWE videogame portfolio returns to define the ultimate WWE moments and give players even greater creative and decision-making freedom throughout their storied journeys within WWE.

‘In the end, there are two main annoyances that stand out to me with WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2011 and make it just a bit less awesome than last year’s effort — the frustrating grapples and the rough Road to WrestleMania backstage stuff. Not being able to transition to a hip toss and watching John Cena’s mouth open and close at random sucked me out of the experience.Thankfully, there’s plenty in this game that pulled me back in. Making choices in the stories, never knowing what was going to happen in WWE Universe Mode, and seeing fans hold up signs packing the IGN logo are all really cool memories I have from this game. Sure, it feels like a suped-up version of last year’s title here and there, but there’s nothing wrong with that when the game is this much fun.’ We give this one 4 stars out of 5.

Rock Band 3 is the next generation of the ultimate social and interactive music gaming platform developed by the category’s leading pioneers, Harmonix Music Systems. Featuring innovative game modes and instruments, Rock Band 3 will change the way fans think about and play music games.

‘Rock Band 3 is a tough one to judge. If you don’t have any downloadable content, then the experience isn’t nearly as robust or interesting. And if you don’t buy the new keyboard or Pro Guitar, well, then it’s just more Rock Band. Not that there’s anything wrong with more of the same — Rock Band’s still a great time. The value in Rock Band 3 is going to vary from person to person far more than with most games. What the Pro mode adds is a reason to play Rock Band alone (if you make the investment). For the first time, the series is more satisfying alone than in a room packed with friends, although that’s not to say rocking out with your buddies isn’t cool. But, seriously, you can spend 20 hours playing Pro Keys and never need anyone else in your band.

Rock Band 3 is the best music game option around. The more you put into it, the more you’ll get out of it. But my bet is that most people will just buy the game and nothing more. And while that experience is still solid, it’s not all that different from Rock Band 2.’ We give it 4 stars out of 5.

Lock, Load, & Face the Madness! Get ready for the mind-blowing insanity, as one of four trigger-happy mercenaries, taking out everything that stands in your way. With its addictive action, frantic first person shooter combat, massive arsenal of weaponry, RPG elements and four-player co-op, Borderlands is the breakthrough experience that challenges all the conventions of modern shooters. Borderlands places you in the role of a mercenary on the lawless and desolate planet of Pandora, hell bent on finding a legendary stockpile of powerful alien technology known as The Vault.

“Gearbox’s Borderlands is without a doubt a slick, satisfying hybrid title for those who know what to expect. If you’re a shooter fan curious what the world of Pandora is all about, then you should know that this is a product built on a foundation of statistical progression, character customization, and one that holds item acquisition high above interesting quest structure and narrative. At the same time, it plays like a shooter, requiring twitch skills to dominate the droves of enemies that stand in between you and your search for a mysterious vault. With the opportunity for up to four to join together for co-operative play, four character classes, a dizzying array of firearms, around 20 or so hours of content for a single playthrough and the option to restart with stronger enemies and loot, there’s plenty of content here. It’s a thoroughly enjoyable journey that offers a steady stream of rewards that remains convenient and accessible. It’s something action role-playing game fans looking for an experience more up-close and brutal than genre entries of the third-person variety should have a blast with, and one of the more memorable products of 2009.” We give it 4 stars out of 5.
