Having sold more than 50 million units worldwide, the renowned WWE simulation experience and annual centerpiece in THQ’s expanding WWE videogame portfolio returns to define the ultimate WWE moments and give players even greater creative and decision-making freedom throughout their storied journeys within WWE.

‘In the end, there are two main annoyances that stand out to me with WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2011 and make it just a bit less awesome than last year’s effort — the frustrating grapples and the rough Road to WrestleMania backstage stuff. Not being able to transition to a hip toss and watching John Cena’s mouth open and close at random sucked me out of the experience.Thankfully, there’s plenty in this game that pulled me back in. Making choices in the stories, never knowing what was going to happen in WWE Universe Mode, and seeing fans hold up signs packing the IGN logo are all really cool memories I have from this game. Sure, it feels like a suped-up version of last year’s title here and there, but there’s nothing wrong with that when the game is this much fun.’ We give this one 4 stars out of 5.

Rock Band 3 is the next generation of the ultimate social and interactive music gaming platform developed by the category’s leading pioneers, Harmonix Music Systems. Featuring innovative game modes and instruments, Rock Band 3 will change the way fans think about and play music games.

‘Rock Band 3 is a tough one to judge. If you don’t have any downloadable content, then the experience isn’t nearly as robust or interesting. And if you don’t buy the new keyboard or Pro Guitar, well, then it’s just more Rock Band. Not that there’s anything wrong with more of the same — Rock Band’s still a great time. The value in Rock Band 3 is going to vary from person to person far more than with most games. What the Pro mode adds is a reason to play Rock Band alone (if you make the investment). For the first time, the series is more satisfying alone than in a room packed with friends, although that’s not to say rocking out with your buddies isn’t cool. But, seriously, you can spend 20 hours playing Pro Keys and never need anyone else in your band.

Rock Band 3 is the best music game option around. The more you put into it, the more you’ll get out of it. But my bet is that most people will just buy the game and nothing more. And while that experience is still solid, it’s not all that different from Rock Band 2.’ We give it 4 stars out of 5.

Kirby’s first console platform game since the Nintendo 64 days introduces an amazing new look based on animated yarn and a world of cloth and textiles. The creative approach is woven directly into the game play and allows the ever-morphing Kirby to take on a variety of new forms. It’s a one-of-a-kind platformer that lets players explore high and low for hidden objects and fun adventure.

Kirby’s Epic Yarn is a fantastic game that might skew a little younger than experienced gamers might be comfortable with, but the subtle level challenges and the incredibly creative art direction is well worth the experience. This is an amazing looking game that embraces traditional platforming designs in fresh new ways.’ We give this 4.5 stars out of 5 stars.

Take to the sky to lead the resistance against Morcubus and his drone army and to stop his plans to take over the skyways. MySims SkyHeroes is an all new adventure that brings the thrill and high speed action of flying to the creative, immersive world of MySims. Go from unknown pilot to celebrated hero as you defeat dangerous enemies in aerial dogfights, test your reflexes in fast-paced speed challenges, and take on massive enemy bosses that demand all your skill as a pilot to survive. As you progress, you build, customize and tune your aircraft to give you an edge in combat – upgrade your wings for swifter maneuvers, switch out your engine for a speed boost, or change the paint job to camouflage your plane and avoid enemy fire. Face Morcubus’ drones with an ally in split-screen cooperative gameplay, or take the game online to challenge your friends in fun, competitive 10-player high speed action. Morcubus and his drones must be stopped; will you rise to the challenge?!

‘MySims SkyHeroes is a serviceable racer and dogfighter, but there’s nothing really special about it. The story mode is missing the clever writing that I enjoyed in some of the previous MySims games, and the lack of variety in the missions makes most of them feel like a chore. Multiplayer can be fun, but it’s not doing anything we haven’t seen before.’ We give this game 3 stars out of 5.

NBA 2K11 is the latest installment in the best selling, and highest rated NBA videogame series. NBA 2K11 is the best way to plug into NBA culture. It’s the most fun, authentic NBA videogame experience and is for any sports fan with that competitive fire who wants to play the best NBA simulation on the market. It’s the NBA series that everyone is playing – from the most elite NBA athletes and superstars to the local court gym rats. NBA 2K10 delivered on its promise to TAKE OVER, and NBA 2K11 will on build on that momentum by dialing up all of its features – gameplay, AI, presentation, visuals, audio, online and more – to deliver the best basketball videogame experience EVER.

‘NBA 2K11 is a love letter to basketball fans. If you don’t follow hoops, a lot of the subtleties will be lost on you. And if you are looking for a loose, fun, crazy dunkfest experience like NBA Jam, you’re going to get hosed. But if you are serious about basketball, this will fill a long-standing void in your hoops-loving heart. This is the NBA. No one else has come close to representing it in such great and accurate detail as this.
Honestly, the stuff with Michael Jordan is reason enough to pick up NBA 2K11. The fact that 2K Sports did so much more with this game and improved it so greatly over last year’s title is stunning. This isn’t just the best basketball game ever; it’s the best sports game of this generation.’ We give it 4.5 stars out of 5.

Def Jam Rapstar captures the essence of what Hip Hop is all about: the music, the battles and of course…the swagger. The ultimate emcee experience for video game consoles, Def Jam Rapstar is the only music game that focuses exclusively on Hip Hop. With more than 40 of the greatest Hip Hop songs available at release, Def Jam Rapstar allows you to be the star: by rhyming, using your console camera, and uploading your video to the fully integrated Def Jam Rapstar community at www.defjamrapstar.com. Def Jam Rapstar also offers you the ability to freestyle over tracks by some of the hottest hip hop producers and upload your freestyle performances for the world to decide how good you really are.

‘Is Def Jam Rapstar perfect? Hell no. Is Def Jam Rapstar fun? F— yes it is! As just a party game I’ve had a blast with it. The censorship is annoying, and hurts the game more than the developers would like to admit. But even that can’t change the fact that it’s a fun game, pure and simple. The online features are what save the title. Showing off your skills (or lack thereof) on the Internet and schooling fools in front of the entire world feels really good. If you’re a hip hop fan, get this game. Then get online, find me, and prepare to get clowned.’ We give this 3.5 stars out of 5.

Hit the streets with your favourite players and show you’ve got the skills to hit the big time. FIFA Soccer 11 delivers a fresh new way to play on Wii with over-the-top street & indoor soccer as well as traditional 11 versus 11 matches.

‘FIFA 11 on DS has more AI issues than I’d like in my brand of soccer, but the core mechanics are still sound and that makes the game mostly enjoyable. This year’s release also comes with a nice stable of extras like a version of Ultimate Team that’s been nicely tailored to the DS and some fun mini-games to go along with mainstays like Manager Mode and Be A Pro. So while FIFA 11 is undoubtedly an enjoyable game overall, Exient needs to do some work on the AI before taking the pitch next year.’  We give it 3 stars out of 5.

Booomshakalaka is right!

Boomshakalaka! It’s baaaaaaaaack? EA SPORTS NBA JAM revives the classic franchise with vintage NBA JAM gameplay, and all-new features that deliver a fresh new take on the game. Featuring the sights and sounds that fans of the franchise will instantly recognize, EA SPORTS NBA JAM mixes the old school with the new, to deliver a one-of-a-kind sports presentation on the Wii. Shoves, spins and of course, backboard smashing dunks take centre stage with classic two vs. two gameplay that lies at the core of NBA JAM. – Choose from all new motion controls, flip the controller on its side, or plug in the Classic Controller or Classic Controller Pro and jump in using classic controls and play with a roster of current NBA players, NBA legends and a few special appearances on the hardwood. With a distinct art style, NBA JAM brings photo realism to the Wii. Unmatched player likeness and reactions exaggerate the outrageous moves that make up the core JAM experience, elevating the already intense gameplay to new heights. With modes aplenty, classic JAM gameplay, and loads of characters and unlockables, you’ll see why the revival of NBA JAM is a slam dunk.

‘NBA Jam revives a franchise that absolutely deserves a revival, and EA Sports proves with its design that the classic still has legs in this generation. It’s an incredibly fun pick-up-and-play game with an insane competitive edge, and obviously it’s a better multiplayer game than it is a solo outing. It’s hard to shake the feeling that there’s more to come for the franchise with little things left out for NBA Jam Round 2, but as a fresh start EA Sports nailed the Jam experience for today’s generation.’ We give it 4 stars out of 5.

PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER 2011 is here and will bring digital soccer to the next level. Central to the heart and soul of PES 2011 is the idea of freedom of play. This freedom invigorates the series with the most advanced set of gamplay improvements ever attempted by the Winning Eleven Production team, coupled with the greatest stride in new content. The result will be a game that allows total control over every element of play – even online – to give the most lifelike soccer experience next to actually putting on a uniform and taking the field.

‘After the promising strides made by last year’s reboot, PES 2011 feels very much a realisation of that potential. With its emphasis on fun still apparent, the added realism provided by control, animation and AI enhancements improve and broaden the package’s appeal no end. Factor in the added tactical flexibility and the addition of the online Master League, and it’s easy to see why PES’ return to form will be widely celebrated. Some may prefer FIFA’s more studied approach to football realism, but when it comes to pick-up-and-play fun and intensity, PES 2011 gets my vote this year.’  We here give it a 4.5 our of 5 stars.

Rock n’ roll will never die, largely thanks to you, your friends and Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. Embark on an epic journey to save rock n’ roll in the most immersive videogame experience to date, with a set list of more than 90 tracks, a completely redesigned, rock-inspired guitar controller and a host of new gameplay features. Become a living-room legend as you and your band mates strum drum and wail to guitar-shredding hits from the likes of Black Sabbath, Slipknot and Megadeth and larger-than-life anthems from bands like Queen, Muse and KISS. A franchise-first, story-based Quest mode will lead you to more rewards and unlockable content than ever before. Everything is expanded and refined for the ultimate rock music experience.

‘Ultimately, that last point summarizes the most damning thing about Warriors of Rock – a lack of any compelling reason to exist. Neversoft placed the lion’s share of their eggs in the Quest mode’s metal themed basket, and it buckles under the pressure. From a technical standpoint, Warriors of Rock works, but existentially, more than ever, Guitar Hero feels aimless. It’s no GH: Van Halen, but after the excellent Guitar Hero 5, Warriors of Rock feels like a lackluster encore rather than a blistering second set. Guitar Hero has been on tour too long now, and it shows. It might finally be time for the band to take a break before heading back into the studio.’ We give it 3 stars out of 5.
